KH_headshotWelcome to my world! I’ll give you a brief introduction, and I hope you’ll write and tell me about yourself.

For as long as I can remember, my favorite place to be has been any quiet corner, curled up with a book. Like many booklovers, I decided at an early age—in my case, eleven—that I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.

Unfortunately, I got distracted by the duties of raising children and earning a living, and didn’t get around to beginning seriously to write fiction until I was in my mid-forties. I prefer novels—I think in epics, not episodes—but I’ve written a couple of short stories and a couple of children’s picture books as well. One story has been published, and one picture book is coming out this fall. I’ll soon be sending the second novel out into the wide world in search of an agent and, ultimately, a publisher.

Between the ages of eleven and forty-something, I finished high school, earned a BA in Russian Literature from Reed College, married twice, raised four children (well, two of them are still in process), and worked in publishing. It wasn’t quite my dream, but at least I got to be around books! I started as a freelance proofreader, worked my way up to project editor with Thomas Nelson Publishers, then moved to California and went to work for Conciliar Press. I’ve been associated with Conciliar Press in some capacity for the last sixteen years, and currently serve on a freelance basis as their acquisitions editor.

Even more than books and family, my life is centered on Jesus Christ. I’m an active member of St. Lawrence Orthodox Christian Church in Felton, California, where I sing soprano in the choir, produce the church newsletter, and do all sorts of little tasks for the parish school, St. Lawrence Academy, where my youngest child still attends.

In my “spare time” (a phrase I, in common with most working mothers, find hilariously funny), I like to do needlework, watch British television, and dabble in domestic architecture—in other words, I pore over books on architecture and design and sketch endless plans for castles in the sky. This interest in architecture tends to spill over into my fiction.

I'd love to hear from you. Use the contact form on this site, or drop me a line on Facebook (I'm listed as Katherine Bolger Hyde). If you're a booklover, I’m sure we’ll get along!
